I first visited Siem Reap in November 2014 with my sister and just returned in April 2016. This post includes information from my orginal visit and some upadtes from my more recent visit.
On one of our days in Siem Reap we took a day off from temples. We had heard about the floating markets just outside the city from our tuk tuk driver, so we decided to go check it out. After a nice leisurely drive through the countryside we arrived at a dock with hundred of boats waiting to take tourists out to the floating villages of Tonle Sap.
If you are looking for a way to engage with the local community and give back while you are in Siem Reap, I highly recommend stopping in at the Landmine Museum on your way back from the Women’s Temple. The landmine museum is much more than just a museum: it is also an Non Profit Organization (NPO) that supports and educates at-risk youth and children affected by landmines.
